Syria army continues mop-up operations across country

The Syrian army is pushing ahead with mop-up operations against the militants across the country including the capital Damascus, Press TV reports.
On Tuesday, the Syrian army launched a counter-offensive against militants on the strategic district of al-Qaboun near Damascus.

“Some Takfiri groups tried to sneak into Damascus through the industrial zone of al-Qaboun. We stopped them and launched counterattack now. We are confident that we will be victorious,” a Syrian army commander said.

Another army commander noted that, “In this operation, we killed a large number of insurgents in the area between Juba and al-Abbasiya (in Damascus).”

In the northern city of Aleppo and its countryside, the army troops killed and wounded a number of Takfiri militants.

The army units also destroyed several hideouts of the foreign-sponsored militants in the neighborhoods of al-Qarabis, al-Warsheh, Bab Hood, al-Abraj, Jouret al-Shayah, al-Waer, Wadi al-Sayeh and al-Hamidiyeh in the city of Homs.

The Syrian army drove back a group of militants who were attempting to infiltrate Syria through the Lebanese border.

Also, on Monday, government forces pushed the militants out of the key district of Khaldiyeh in Homs and restored security and stability to the neighborhood.

Moreover, Syrian forces repelled a terrorist attack on the National Hospital in the Homs countryside, killing scores of militants.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011.

According to the reports, the West and its regional allies — Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on July 25 that more than 100,000 people have been killed in Syria since the outbreak of foreign-sponsored militancy in the country. Millions of others have been also displaced in the violence.
