Iran to join China, Europe by rail

Iran’s first Vice-President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi says the nation’s railway network will soon be connected to that of Turkey, China and Europe.

Rahimi described the move as one of the most significant measures adopted in the Iranian railway industry.

“The government is [also] trying to link Iran to its neighbors via rail,” IRNA quoted Rahimi as saying at the opening ceremony of a national railroad project.

“In the near future, contracts will be signed with four different countries so as to link our country with them via railroads,” he added.

He underscored Iran’s determination to “bypass enemy sanctions” through any means possible and described utilizing the potentialities in the transit sector as one way to achieve this goal.

“If all the potentials of the country’s transit sector are tapped, it can bring in as much revenues as [the] oil [industry],” he noted.
