f0bb3bed7f717d99b0e5b0697b4cca5c_LMuslim Iran people are celebrating the 34th anniversary of the Islamic revolution while they have persistently stood on the goals of the revolution and have not withdrawn an inch form the ideals of the revolution manifested by the late leader of the revolution Imam Khomeini (God’s mercy upon his soul). The celebrations of the anniversary of victory of the Islamic revolution culminate on Bahman 22 according to the Iranian calendar corresponding with February 10. People from all walks of life and with varying years of age pour to the streets of every city and town to demonstrate their loyalty to the most popular revolution and government in the modern era. The massive presence of the people of Tehran in the streets and their gathering in Azadi square, illustrates the grandeur and splendor of the Islamic revolution before the eyes of the world people. All these million strong rallies show that despite economic sanctions, political pressures and military threats of the US, its European allies and regional puppet regimes against this divine revolution, people are behind their leader and will never step back from their ideals.

Iran’s Islamic revolution was a mere internal phenomenon to overthrow an oppressive regime, but as many American and European officials have admitted, the Islamic revolution was an overwhelming earthquake for the western world. Although the US lost one of its closest stooges in the most sensitive strategic region, the waves of this great explosion frightened the west-affiliated regimes in the Middle East. The main message of the Islamic revolution was cultural and was based on religious thought and spiritual values. Victory of the Islamic revolution means exporting its message and values and the start of liberating uprisings in Muslim countries and the so-called Third World. As the Islamic revolution was triumphed in Iran, Saddam staged a coup with the goal of controlling Islamic moves. The people of Lebanon and Palestine, inspired by the revolution, celebrated the victory of the Iranian revolution and started their jihad. The Islamic movements were also revived in Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

After World War II an oppressive order ruled over the world. Different regions were divided between the eastern and western powers manifested by Warsaw Pact and the NATO respectively. No move and development could succeed without dependence on any of these two powers. But the Islamic revolution gained victory with the slogan of “Neither East Nor West.” Imam Khomeini’s movement in Iran directly countered the US Imperialism and defeated it. The victory of the Islamic revolution even removed the guise of the communists in their anti-Imperialist claims and, for the first time, religion was raised as a engine in the campaigns of nations. Despite all efforts to preserve the Shah and stymie Imam Khomeini’s great movement, the Islamic revolution gained victory quite miraculously. Many political analysts and all observers of Iran’s affairs considered the occurrence of such a victory to be impossible even if the days of the Pahlavi regime had been numbered. Therefore, since Bahman 22, 1357 corresponding with February 11, 1979 the enemies of Islam, who lost their illegitimate interests in Iran, accumulated all their potentials to bring the fledging revolution to its knees.

The enmities were led by the US, while Britain and some other regimes had an active participation. The Soviet Union and its satellites, being discontent with what happened in Iran and the prospect of religious rule, followed the western bloc in many of its measures. This alliance was obviously displayed by the unity of the rightist and the leftist counter-revolutionary grouplets in the country which later on confessed to and revealed documents about their full dependence on the Soviet and the US embassies. The ultimate convergence between the east and the west for smashing the Islamic revolution could be seen in equipping Saddam and providing him with full support during the 8-year war against the Islamic Republic. But Imam Khomeini (God’s mercy upon his soul) guided the revolution towards stability and construction despite all dastardly plots and seditions. The movement, started and led by Imam Khomeini, was able to clean the dust off the image of Islam and show its real visage to the seekers of justice after 14 centuries. For this reason, the present leader of the Islamic revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said, “This revolution is known nowhere in the world without the name of Imam Khomeini.”

The big phenomena in every society affect the intellectual, political and social developments outside its borders, too. The Islamic revolution of Iran was a religious and cultural event and has widely impacted the Middle East and the world. The main characteristic of the Islamic revolution is promotion of Islam and its basic principles. The universal nature of the revolution is manifested in spreading the Islamic culture and increasing the dignity of Muslims. Imam Khomeini considered promotion of the Islamic revolution thought not only a revolutionary move but a religious duty. Article 154 of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s constitution reads, “The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the happiness and prosperity of men in the entire human society as its ideal and independence, freedom and the rule of justice and truth as the right of all world people. Therefore, while avoiding any interference in the internal affairs of other nations, the Islamic republic supports the truth-seeking campaign of the oppressed against the arrogant powers in every part of the world.”

The most important achievement of the victory of the Islamic revolution is the revival of the ideology on the basis of religion and putting forward Islam as a force able to administer society and the world. Prior to the victory of the Islamic revolution Islam was humiliated and ridiculed as a backward religion. The manifesto of most so-called liberating movements was based on socialism and communism.

Even among the Muslim scholars, there were a few who believed in struggle against the despotic ruler and mobilization of people on the basis of religious teachings.

Imam Khomeini (God’s mercy upon his soul) was actually among a few Islamic scholars who courageously and with full trust in God raised the banner of campaign against the monarchic regime and its supporters while no one could even think of having the feeblest voice against domineering powers.

One of the consequences of victory of the Islamic revolution was the revival of self-belief of Muslims and struggle against dominance among the nations. Imam Khomeini with reliance on God and people’s support toppled one of the most powerful dictators backed by the US and western governments. It was the revival of self-belief and the anti-oppression character of Islam which annuled the myth of invincibility of the Zionist regime by the Lebanese anti-terrorist legendary movement Hezbollah on the 33-day on Lebanon as well as the 22-day and 8-day wars on Gaza. It was in the wake of this self-belief that the Islamic awakening was shaped in the Middle East and the governments of dictators like Zain-al Abedin Ben Ali in Tunisia and Hosni Mubarak in Egypt were overthrown. Aspirations and values of the Islamic revolution are still alive and the struggle for materializing the justice-seeking and anti-oppression ideals still continues.

The US and its cohorts do not want the Islamic Republic of Iran to turn into a political, economic and cultural model for the world Muslims. Therefore, by enforcing very strict sanctions and political pressures, they try to hinder the progress and development of the Iranian nation. During the past 34 years the Iranian nation has succeeded to reach the pinnacles of progress and development and cross the borders of technology and science which was in the monopoly of the western arrogant powers. This time, too, this brave nation will proudly come out of the savage economic sanctions. The glorious and massive turnout of the Iranian people in the demonstrations on the occasion of the anniversary of the Islamic revolution victory shows the firm resolves of the Iranians for resistance against the insatiable avarice and extremism of the US and its accomplices.
