Video-Iranian Scientists Patent Cleaner Fuel Technology

New efforts to reduce the lead in gasoline.
Iranian scientists are making breakthroughs in reducing isomers to cut down the lead in gasoline to produce a higher and cleaner grade of fuel.

The main objectives are to try and increase the current 16% gas production from crude oil to 33%, and increase the quality of oil products to meet the Euro 5 standards.

Researchers are working on decreasing the saturation in gasoline to produce a higher and cleaner octane of fuel. The development of Isomer technology allows the lead to be decreased in fuel for a higher and cleaner octane. Besides Shazand Oil refinery , in central Iran where the main project is underway , currently similar projects have expanded to other refineries such as Tehran, Bandar Abbas and Shiraz .

With the help of the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) and the National Iranian Oil Engineering and Construction company the breakthrough and development of “Naphtha isomerization process has been reached. This is one of the most important processes in the expansion project of producing a cleaner grade of octane. Since its start in 1999 after 2 years Iranian scientists patented this process in Iran called “ISOMIR”.

This new advancement allows the Imam Khomeini Refinery in Shazand to produce 1,350,000 liters of gasoline per day.

In November of 2011 this isomer technology went into full effect. This unit at the Shahzad Refinery is the first one in oil refining industry in Iran produced and patented by only Iranian scientists. in the past century, this is the 1st time such a research has been designed in Iran.

Within the next 5 years with the help of the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry and the National Iranian Oil Engineering and Construction Company, Iranian researches and scientists plan to use their own patents and innovations in isomerization technology, rather than purchasing their licenses from Western Countries.
