Video- ‘US fails in Afghanistan after decade’

The US-led war in Afghanistan has entered its 11th year, under the pretext of toppling the Taliban regime and establishing security in the war-torn country.

Press TV has interviewed with Sabir Seddiqi, Political Analyst, to share his opinion on this issue.

Press TV: Why do you think the Americans and their allies failed to bring security to Afghanistan after 10 years of war and occupation? What do you basically see the legacy of the presence of foreigners in your country after this decade?

Seddiqi: I think the presence of foreigners in Afghanistan, it may have some gains for them but for the Afghan people, today Afghanistan is almost exactly what it was before ten years. The infrastructure is not built, the political system is not set up low and the differences between different segments of the country is still wide, I do not think that big achievements are there we can call that, they have achieved in this in the previous ten years in Afghanistan.

Press TV: Why do you think it has taken this ten years basically as an Afghan yourself could you predict ten years ago that the war is going to go for this long and the Americans and the foreigners are going to remain in the country for this long?

Seddiqi: Well, when I heard that the Americans have attacked Afghanistan and attacked Taliban, then I and also other analysts, they believed that the situation will be like this, like today because the attack was not carried out, I mean before the attack there was not a good plan, there was not good coordination between the attackers and also the forces inside Afghanistan. There was not a good strategy well declared and well thought strategy for this war, so then we have gained something but Afghanistan is still as it was before ten years.

Press TV: The Americans are always saying that was been here, we are here for the security of yourselves, you Afghan people. How much or let’s put it this way, can they sell this anymore to the Afghan people after these ten years?

Seddiqi: I think Americans here they did not do a lot for the security situation in Afghanistan because if we see NATO, it was not designed to fight in Helmand or Kandahar. It was designed to fight with Warsaw Pact for example. It was not designed to fight a few hundred people in South Afghanistan. So from this angle if we see to the issue, they have failed to show even the power of NATO in their forces, in their armies in this country.
