Violent clashes erupt in Indian Kashmir

Fierce clashes have erupted in Indian-administered Kashmir after protesters took to the streets with the demand that India leave the region.

Hundreds of people in Kashmir marched in an anti-India rally on Saturday, chanting “we want freedom” when police fired rubber bullets into the crowd.

Meanwhile, a grenade that blew up near the protesters wounded four Indian forces and a civilian.

“Three CRPF [Central Reserve Police Force] men and a local policeman were injured in the attack,” CRPF spokesman Prabhakar Tripathi told reporters.

Kashmir has been one of the main issues causing troubled relations between India and Pakistan. The two neighbors claim the Muslim majority region and have fought three wars over its control.
