West plotting to weaken Muslim states

Iran’s Parliament speaker says western powers are always plotting schemes to weaken the Muslim countries, stressing that Tehran will always support Sudan.

In a meeting with Sudanese Parliament Speaker Ahmed Ibrahim al-Taher, Larijani expressed regret over losses suffered by the Sudanese nation and government because of imperialist policies and said, “Regardless of the Sudanese government’s good-intentions, Western powers will never abandon their schemes.”

The meeting took place on the sidelines of an extraordinary summit of Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU) in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday, IRNA reported.

Larijani said Tehran is concerned about the future of Sudan, adding that “Iran is worried that instead of treading on the path of progress and development, north and south of Sudan get involved in new hardships which are created by the support of the Zionist Regime [of Israel] and certain western countries.”

On January 16, Iran’s Parliament announced that it would not attend the IIPU summit in protest to the UAE plans to set up a good office committee in Abu Dhabi to launch a smear campaign against Iran, Head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi explained later.

Speaker of UAE House of the Federal National Council Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair, however, asked Larijani to attend the summit in a phone conversation, promising to remove the formation of the committee from the agenda of the summit.

Speaker of the National Assembly of Kuwait also announced his opposition to the controversial committee and stressed the importance of Iran’s presence at the summit, Boroujerdi said.
