An Iranian lawmaker praises intelligence forces for the arrest of several elements cooperating with a Western media network, stressing that the operation thwarted a US-British media and security plot against Iran.

Spokesman for the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Seyyed Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini said on Friday that Iranian intelligence personnel, thanks to their experience and vigilance, will nip any anti-Iran bid in the bud.

He added that US and British intelligence agencies try to identify potential assets via BBC Persian and the Voice of America (VOA) media organizations, and use them against Iran.

The vigilance of the Iranian Intelligence Ministry and its being well-informed have thwarted this anti-Iran plot, Naqavi-Hosseini said.

In a statement released on Wednesday night, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry said in line with its duty to counter any foreign infiltration and interference in the country, it had identified “one of the largest media networks affiliated to the global arrogance.”

The network, established by BBC, was monitored for several months as it was multi-layered and massive and used specific communication tools and methods to transmit news and receive guidelines from foreign elements, the statement added.

The statement said legal action was taken after these elements were identified both inside and outside Iran and information and judicial documents were collected on them.

It said that the investigation into the case would continue, adding that other elements connected with the network might be arrested or summoned and some detainees may be released.
