Western media distorting IRGC image

Some Western media are publishing false interviews with IRGC commanders to distort the true image of the Revolutionary Guards, a top military official says.

“Media controlled by arrogant powers are after creating Iranophobia among regional countries and are trying to mobilize the region’s public opinion against Iran,” Lieutenant General Ramezan Sharif, head of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) public relations department said on Thursday.

Sharif explained that these media publish false quotes from IRGC commanders, without citing names or sources, to portrait a threatening image of Iran and IRGC, Fars News Agency reported.

“Iran’s military might is only for protecting the country, not for threatening friendly countries in the region,” the Iranian general said.

Israel and its Western allies accuse Iran of following a military nuclear program and Tel Aviv has repeatedly threatened Tehran with an attack on its nuclear facilities.

Iran rejects the charges, arguing that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), it has a right to the peaceful application of nuclear technology.

The IRGC commanders have stressed that should the enemies attack Iran, the Revolutionary Guards are prepared to defend the country and its interests.
