With Rousseff, Brazil to stay anti-US

A senior Iranian lawmaker says Dilma Rousseff’s victory in Brazil’s presidential elections will consolidates anti-American fronts in Latin America.

Latin America is moving towards an anti-American mood and the remarks of Bolivian President Evo Morales in the open session of Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) is a good example of the movement, Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Monday.

“Although Latin America was the US backyard in the past, the political atmosphere of this region has changed today,” head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission told IRNA.

Boroujerdi made the remarks following Rousseff’s victory in the election runoff in Brazil.

Many analysts believe that Rousseff will follow her predecessor Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s policies in domestic and foreign affairs.

The Iranian politician noted that Washington’s efforts to eliminate Lula’s party from the political scene were fruitless in the recent presidential elections, describing US foreign policy in Latin America as unsuccessful.

Boroujerdi described Rousseff’s victory as a victory for the Islamic Republic, expressing hope for the expansion of Tehran-Brasilia relations in the political and economic fields.
