Yemen forces kill 3, hurt 30 in Sana’a

Yemeni forces have attacked anti-regime protesters in the capital city of Sana’a, killing at least three people and injuring 30 others, Press TV reports.

The people were killed after Yemeni regime forces opened live fire on peaceful protesters in the capital early on Sunday, a Press TV correspondent reported.

The death toll is expected to rise as many of the injured are in critical condition.

The protesters have called for more demonstrations on Sunday despite the government’s intensifying crackdown.

The demonstrators have planned to march from their base in the capital’s Change Square to the areas controlled by regime loyalists. They hope to reach within a kilometer of the presidential palace.

Violence has also been reported in the southern city of Taizz.

People are demanding the immediate resignation of Ali Abdullah Saleh and his prosecution for ordering the killing of protesters.

Saleh returned to Yemen from Saudi Arabia on September 23 after receiving treatment for wounds he sustained in an attack on the presidential palace in June.

According to local reports, hundreds of Yemenis have been killed and thousands more have been injured since the onset of the popular uprising against the Saleh regime in late January.
