Yemen Hezbollah Ansarullah, allied forces attack Saudi military base

Fighters from Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement together with members of allied Popular Committees have launched an attack against a Saudi military base as Riyadh presses ahead with its air campaign against its impoverished and conflict-ridden neighbor.

On Monday, Ansarullah fighters and forces of popular committees attacked the base in Saudi Arabia near the mountainous Tuwayliq district of the northwestern Yemeni province of Sa’ada, though there was no immediate information on casualties, Arabic-language al-Masirah satellite television network reported.

Earlier in the day, Saudi fighter jets struck al-Saifi area of the same province. No figure has been reported yet for the casualties.

Saudi forces also lobbed a number of mortar rounds at Takhyah area of Sa’ada Province. There were no immediate reports of possible casualties and the extent of damage inflicted.

Moreover, scores of civilians lost their lives or sustained injuries when Saudi warplanes carried out airstrikes against al-Mosa’abah area in Majaz district of the northwestern Yemeni province.

Also on Saturday, Saudi military aircraft conducted five air raids against Dhahyan district of Yemen’s Sa’ada Province.

Saudi Arabia started its military aggression against Yemen on March 26 — without a UN mandate — in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement, which currently controls the capital, Sana’a, and other major provinces, and to restore power to Yemen’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who is a staunch ally of Riyadh.

According to the UN, since March, nearly 2,000 people have been killed and 7,330 injured due to the conflict in Yemen.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says the Saudi aggression against Yemen has claimed the lives of more than 130 children over the past two months.

“Since the conflict escalated in March, as many as 135 children have been killed and 260 injured,” the UNICEF said in a statement on Sunday.

The UN body said that one-third of the deaths occurred in Yemen’s southern coastal city of Aden that has been hit by violent clashes over the past few days.
