Yemeni snipers have killed at least four Saudi troops in a series of retaliatory attacks in the kingdom’s Jizan region.

The Saudi forces were killed on Sunday after at least another four Saudi soldiers were killed by Yemeni troops in a series of separate operations in Arabia’s southwestern border region of Najran.

The attacks were carried out after Saudi airstrikes on its impoverished neighbor killed at least eight Yemeni civilians and injured several more.

At least seven people were killed and 10 more wounded on Sunday as a Saudi air raid targeted Yemen’s northwestern province of Hajjah.

In a separate attack in the Ma’rib province, one person was also killed.

Earlier in the day, Saudi warplanes conducted air raids on western Yemen, causing several casualties.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its allies have been pounding Yemen — already the Arab world’s most impoverished nation — since March 2015 to restore a former regime that they favored.

More than 13,600 people have died since the onset of the invasion. At least 40,000 have also been injured and more than three million displaced.

The offensive has, however, achieved neither of its goals despite the spending of billions of petrodollars and the enlisting of the cooperation of Saudi Arabia’s regional and Western allies.
