Presidents’ special adviser in tribes and ethnic religious groups affairs said on Tuesday that Iran has neither been an expansionist nor aggressor and opposes such moves and intervention in other countries’ internal affairs.

Hojjatoleslam Ali Yunesi said that the recent narration of him in the mass media on Iraq is related to historical and civilizational facts during the Iranian kingdoms of the Acheamenids, the Sassanids, and the Arsacids.

‘Iran’s main approach and major policy is based on respecting the independence, territorial integrity and political legitimacy of Iraq and the entire region, just as the permanent policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been so,’ added the special presidential aid.

Yunesi further reiterated that the Iraqi people and legitimate government need the assistance of Iran and the other regional countries to preserve their territorial integrity.

‘Establishment of the Union of the Iranian Plateau does not mean that the ancient Iranian Empire should be revived, but what can be established is regional cooperation, unity and respecting the territorial integrity of all the countries’ in this territory, relying on similarities and cultural and historical commonalties aimed at boosting unity, advancement, and progress,’ he elaborated.

Yunesi stressed that the enemies have always been beating on the drums of Iranophobia trying to prevent Iran’s regional influence and deserved status.

Certain section of the regional media had during the course of the past days quoted certain sentences out of context from Hojjatoleslam Yunesi, trying to convey the idea that the special assistance of the Iranian president had voiced Iran’s claim on Iraq as a part of its historical territory.
