Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul appreciated the Islamic Republic of Iran for its positive role in the establishment of security and the reconstruction of Afghanistan, and urged further expansion of bilateral ties between the two countries.

“Iran’s standing beside the Afghan nation and its support for their Jihad and also hosting millions of Afghan refugees show the profound friendship between the two countries and nations,” Rassoul said in a ceremony held at the venue of Tehran’s embassy in Kabul on Tuesday to mark the 34th anniversary of the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.

He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s aid and assistance to Afghanistan’s reconstruction and establishment of security in that country is another evidence of the intimate relationship between Tehran and Kabul.

“We hope to witness more extensive cultural, scientific and political relations between the two countries,” Rassoul said.

Iran is one of the most important donors to Afghanistan which has kept its promises to help to the reconstruction of the war-hit country.

The country has helped Afghanistan in upgrading its electricity system and half of Herat city’s electricity needs are supplied by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran has built some roads, power transmission lines, and border stations, among the other infrastructure projects which would better link the two nations.
