As Iran and six world powers are reaching their deadline to clinch a comprehensive agreement over Tehran’s nuclear energy program, Israel sends a high-ranking delegation to the United States to discuss a final deal between Iran and the P5+1, Israeli media report.

The Israeli team headed by Israel’s Minister of Strategic Affairs Yuval Steinitz traveled to Washington on Sunday to meet with US Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman, who is the country’s representative in the nuclear talks.

Steinitz is accompanied by a number of officials from Israel’s National Security Council, Atomic Energy Commission, Foreign Ministry and intelligence services.

Iran and the six countries reached an interim deal on November 24, 2013, in the Swiss city of Geneva. The six-month deal, which took effect on January 20, can be extended.

Under the deal, the six countries agreed to provide Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Iran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities during a six-month period.

The Israeli lobby has been working hard to sabotage Iran’s nuclear deal with the world powers, claiming that Tehran seeks to produce nuclear weapons.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that any nuclear deal between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany should be similar to the chemical weapons deal reached with Syria, that is to say Iran’s nuclear energy program must be dismantled completely.

Natanyahu’s remark came ahead of new rounds of talks between Iran and the six countries in the Austrian capital Vienna, slated to begin on July 2.

Iran has repeatedly emphasized that its nuclear energy program is geared to civilian purposes only.

The country is in talks with the six world powers to fully resolve the decade-old dispute over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

Israel’s allegations against Iran come as the Tel Aviv regime reportedly maintains between 200 and 400 atomic warheads.
