Iran underlines expansion of cooperation among G-15 members

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki stressed the necessity for the development of cooperation among the members of the Group 15 (G-15).

Mottaki made the remarks at the 33rd meeting of the G-15 foreign ministers held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Sunday.

Underscoring the necessity for boosting cooperation among the member states, he described the creation of an open, transparent and indiscriminate economic system as well as reforms in the global economic and monetary systems as the main factors contributing to development.

The Iranian top diplomat also raised a number of proposals, including the devising of a mechanism to increase cooperation and dialogue among the private sectors of the member countries and finding mechanisms to boost investment in the region to bolster G-15 efficiency.

The G-15 is a group of 18 developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America and was set up in September 1989 to foster cooperation amongst members and other international groups.

Iran, Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Venezuela and Zimbabwe are the G-15 members.
