At least 14 people have been killed in two bomb attacks that struck near a police station in the Syrian capital Damascus.

The incident took place on Tuesday after explosive devices blew off near Marjeh Square in central Damascus, the Syrian Al-Ikhbariya television said.

Some 31 people were also injured in the incident.

No group has yet claimed the responsibility for the attack, but the Syrian television blamed “terrorist suicide bombers” for the deadly attack.

On June 8, at least eight people, including three women and a teen, were killed in a car bomb blast in Al-Adawiya neighborhood in the Syrian province of Homs. Several people were reportedly injured in the blast.

The recent attacks came as the Syrian army took control of the last militant bastion near the strategic town of Qusayr in Homs province, after three weeks of clashes.

Scores of militants are reported to have been killed in the clashes.

Syria has been gripped by a deadly unrest since March 2011 and many people, including large numbers of government forces, have been killed in the violence.

The Syrian government says the West and its regional allies including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey are supporting the militants.
