Six policemen found shot dead in southern Afghanistan

At least Six Afghan policemen are found dead and two others are missing at a security checkpoint in the troubled southern Afghanistan, Press TV reports.

Afghan government officials said on Thursday it was not still clear how the officers had been killed in the volatile Helmand Province.

Omar Zwak, a spokesman for the governor of Helmand Province, said the officers’ bodies were discovered on Wednesday night in the town of Mousa Qale, while their vehicles and weapons were missing.

A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claimed responsibility for the attack, but made no mention of the two missing policemen.

The Taliban militants had earlier warned they will infiltrate Afghan security forces and carry out insider attacks. There have been several such attacks in recent months.

The Taliban spring offensive is in full swing in Afghanistan. That’s a period when attacks by militants on foreign and Afghan forces hit their peak.

The militant group said it would use “every possible tactic” to inflict casualties on Afghan and US-led forces, specifically mentioning insider and bomb attacks.

Despite the presence of thousands of US-led forces in the war-torn country, the violence has grown every passing year since the 2001 US-led invasion.
