Soldiers of the Syrian army entered the town of Babyla following the truce reached recently to allow aid for the civilians trapped there.
Damascus provincial governor, Hussein Makhlouf, said: “We have come here to end the suffering and fighting and to be united to rebuild Syria together. We are here because of the efforts of the Syrian Arab army along with devoted locals and we say Syrians can solve their problems alone.”
The governor started speaking to a crowd of opposition armed men and their supporters, who soon started chanting slogans demanding the release of detained gunmen.
Before the truce, Babyla as well as Beit Sahem and Yalda, were scene of deadly clashes.
The Syrian national flag was raised over the shattered municipality building while a police unit was to start work in the town’s police station.
