Mottaki highlights Iran’s NPT rights
Iran’s foreign minister has underlined the nation’s inalienable right under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to use nuclear energy for peaceful ends.
Manouchehr Mottaki briefed his Singaporean counterpart George Yeo on the latest developments regarding Iran’s nuclear program, especially Tehran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The Iranian minister said anti-Iran sanctions had failed to hurt the country’s economy in a meeting with his counterparts on the sidelines of the 65th conference of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Highlighting Iran’s self-sufficiency in different sectors, the oil and gas industry in particular, Mottaki called for the enhancement of economic as well as political ties between the two countries.
The Iranian diplomacy chief also met with Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato Sri Anifah Aman whose country currently holds the presidency of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations.
Mottaki briefed his Malaysian counterpart on the latest developments regarding Iran’s nuclear issue, the Tehran declaration as well as talks with the Vienna Group and the P5+1.
The senior Iranian diplomat underlined the need for restructuring the UN, which was echoed by his Malaysian counterpart as well.
In a meeting with Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Samuel Santos Lopez, Mottaki elaborated on Iran’s potentialities in different areas and expressed hope for forging closer ties.
