Two US-led Italian soldiers wounded in Afghan bomb blast

Two Italian soldiers have been injured in a roadside bomb explosion in Afghanistan’s western province of Herat, Press TV reports.

The attack was carried out on Sunday when an Italian military convoy hit the bomb in Shindand district of the province.

The Taliban militants claimed responsibility for the attack and said it was part of their ‘spring offensive’ against the foreign forces in Afghanistan.

The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) also confirmed the attack, but it did not provide further details.

The Taliban militants mostly use improvised explosive devices including roadside bombs against foreign forces, Afghan troops and civilians.

On Saturday, the militants also claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on the biggest US military base in Nangarhar Province, eastern Afghanistan.

The militants also attacked an Afghan army outpost in Kunar Province near the eastern border with Pakistan on April 12, killing over a dozen soldiers.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in October 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity remains across the country, despite the presence of thousands of US-led troops.
