Former Israeli agents present new plan

Israel’s former security officials have proposed an initiative calling for the formation of a Palestinian state within 1967 borders, with East al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital.

The former officials, including former heads of spying service Mossad and internal security agency Shin Bet, have also called on Israel to withdraw from Syria’s Golan Heights in a phased five-year process.

The two-page document also states that al-Aqsa Mosque should not be under Israel’s control.

Among the almost 40 signatories of the initiative are former Shin Bet chiefs Yaakov Peri and Ami Ayalon, former Mossad Chief Danny Yatom, former army Chief Amnon Lipkin-Shahak, General Amram Mitzna, former minister Moshe Shahal and Yuval Rabin, son of assassinated Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

The plan also includes a land exchange which will not exceed 7 percent of the West Bank.

The plan proposes financial compensation to the Palestinians refugees, and their return to Palestine, with “mutually agreed-upon symbolic exceptions” allowed some of them back into Israel.

The proposed initiative, the details of which are expected to be published on Wednesday, was sent to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday.
