200 Palestinians in Israeli jails go on hunger strike

200 Palestinians in Israeli jails go on hunger strikeNearly 200 Palestinian administrative detainees have begun an indefinite hunger strike in 30 Israeli jails, demanding an end to their captivity, Palestinian Prisoner Society said.

The protest effort started on Thursday, according to the Palestinian rights group, which further noted that 80 of the Palestinian hunger strikers are held in the notorious Ofer prison, 55 are kept in Negev jail, and the other 65 administrative detainees are jailed in Megiddo prison.

This is while the Tel Aviv regime’s prison administration has decided to transfer administrative detainees in Negev prison as an attempt to undermine the mass hunger strike protest by the Palestinian inmates, the Palestine Information Center reported.

Meanwhile, Ofer prison administration has informed the administrative detainees, including Palestinian Legislative Council members, that they will be transferred to Hadarim and Ramle prisons on Thursday, according to Ahrar Center for Prisoner Studies.

Director of the center, Fouad Khuffash, said that such measures by the Israeli regime are intended to break the mass hunger strike.

Ahrar center further underlined that the administrative detainees have refused to make concessions regarding their decision to declare hunger strike. The detainees affirmed their resolve to continue their protest move untill achieving their demands, especially a halt to the administrative detention policy.

The Palestinian detainees also called for highlighting their cause and plight at local and international levels.
