Britons urged to launch civil disobedience campaign against govt.

British people, including workers and union members, have been urged to launch a campaign of “civil disobedience” to protest the coalition government’s austerity measures, local media reported.

Unite union general secretary Len McCluskey called on the UK’s working class to stand and fight the Con-Dem government’s savage cuts to public spending and austerity measures on its agenda, pledging to “fight all the way to the next election,” British media reported.

“The reality is that this government’s policies are taking us on a path to poverty and we want to make certain that we give people confidence throughout our nations to be able to stand up and resist,” MaCluskey said.

McCluskey said unions should not be “cowering” at the prospect of taking on the government.

“Ordinary working people, who feel battered at the moment, attacked from all sides by this government, should have the bravery and the courage to stand together. This is no time for us, and certainly no time for trade union leaders, to be cowering in the corner,” he added.

Britons have so far staged several general strikes and various actions in protest at the coalition’s economic policies, which are leading the poor working families into a deeper poverty.

Campaigners believe civil disobedience and/or any form of resistance will force the government take a step back and remember that there are millions and millions of ordinary working people out there who are not prepared to stand idly by and watch them destroy everything that they hold dear to themselves in their society.

They say that it is their right, and their duty to protest, when they feel governments are acting against ordinary working people.
