Taliban kill 35 Afghan road workers

At least 35 Afghan workers have been killed and more than 20 others injured after Taliban fighters attacked their compound in eastern Afghanistan.

“A large group of Taliban attacked a road construction company in Paktia province. The fighting between the company guards and Taliban attackers continued for two hours,” AFP quoted Paktia provincial spokesman Rohullah Samoon as saying on Thursday.

“Thirty-five guards and staff of the company were killed and 20 were injured. There were casualties on the Taliban side as well,” he added.

On March 28, a three-man assault team attacked the compound of another road construction company in Bermel district of Paktika province.

Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

The assailants first killed a security guard at the main gate of the construction company and then drove a truck packed with explosives into its compound.

At least 20 road workers were killed and more than 50 wounded in the massive blast.
