Iran Not to Give In to Pressure in Nuclear Talks

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani gave an assurance that Tehran will not succumb to pressure exerted from the world powers in the talks over its nuclear energy program.

The world has now realized that the Iranian nation and government will by no means bow to pressure in the course of the nuclear talks, President Rouhani said at a joint meeting of the administration and parliament, held in Tehran on Sunday evening.

“The other side clearly knows that this government and nation are not used to submissiveness,” he said of the negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

The president also reassured Iranians that his administration will do its utmost to defend the country’s rights, including the right to enjoy nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Moreover, Rouhani predicted a road fraught with difficulties in reaching a final, comprehensive agreement on Iran’s nuclear energy program.

Iran and the six powers on April 2 reached a framework nuclear agreement after more than a week of intensive negotiations in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final, comprehensive accord until the end of June.

The framework provides a series of solutions that will be the basis of a comprehensive joint plan of action.
