Leader Highlights Role of Books in Fostering Culture During Visit to Tehran Book Fair

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, visited the 34th Tehran International Book Fair in Tehran, Iran. He labeled it as a large event for the public, with culture being its principal element.

On Sunday, after three years of coronavirus restrictions, Ayatollah Khamenei spent three hours touring sections of an exhibition and engaging in conversations with publishers and visitors.

The Leader, speaking to IRIB after his visit, commended the increasing number of books being published within the country, despite some difficulties, and urged for the elimination of any hindrances in this area.

The Leader declared that books have consistently been viewed with reverence in Iran, and accentuated their role in the growth of culture, in spite of the prevalence of digital media.

Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized that in order to promote culture within the nation, books are essential, and despite the increasing popularity of virtual spaces, books still maintain their esteemed status.

He emphasized his strong love of books and encouraged Iranians, particularly young people, to read to expand their knowledge and enhance their lives.

Ayatollah Khamenei urged the publishing of more books for children and teenagers that are reflective of Iranian culture.

The inaugural Tehran International Book Fair was held in 1987, and the 34th edition of the exhibition opened in Tehran on May 10, 2021 with publishers from Iran and 40 other nations in attendance.
