MP: West Will Eventually Accept Iran’s Uranium Enrichment Right

A1136886 (1)The West has no way out but to fully accept Iran’s right to enrich uranium since the westerners cannot make Tehran accept any further obligation beyond the rules and regulations of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), an Iranian lawmaker said, adding that the Iran-West nuclear standoff will be resolved in medium term.

Speaking to FNA on Sunday, member of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Evaz Heidarpour reiterated that Iran’s nuclear activities comply with the NPT regulations and Tehran will never accept any more obligation.

“If the Group 5+1 member states insist on the suspension of Iran’s (nuclear) activities, our country will reject their demand as before,” he underlined.

He stressed the necessity for continued talks between Iran and the G5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) in future, and said continued negotiations can resolve all the existing problems and differences.

“Definitely, we will soon witness that the westerners acknowledge that we are entitled to the right of enrichment because they cannot impose any obligation on us beyond the NPT rules and regulations.”

Yesterday, Iran’s deputy chief negotiator Ali Baqeri said Tehran is ready to resume talks with the world powers on its nuclear program and awaits word from the European Union on timing and details.

On April 6, Iran and the six world powers wrapped up two days of intensive negotiations in Almaty.

The Iranian team was led by Iran’s chief negotiator, Saeed Jalili, who is also the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), and the G5+1’s representatives were presided EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton.
