Al-Moallem to Kaag: Syria committed to carrying out obligations as for chemical weapons

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem discussed on Tuesday the standing cooperation between Syria and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the UN with special coordinator of the joint UN-OPCW mission in Syria Sigrid Kaag.
Minister al-Moallem affirmed Syria’s commitment to carrying out its obligations regarding dismantling chemical weapons while taking into account the non-politicization of the process and carrying out Syria’s obligations within a timeframe that allows for completing the process in the required manner.
In turn, Kaag said that Syria’s cooperation led to the success of the investigators and OPCW crew, and that work is ongoing with Syria and other countries to ensure the success of this mission.
Earlier on Tuesday, Kaag discussed with Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad issues related to Syria’s obligations, the work of the OPCW team, fulfilling the requests made by Syria as part of the agreement between the two sides, the details of required operations, and the conditions, supplies and equipment needed for them.
Al-Moallem: Pressure will not weaken Syria’s determination to stand by Palestinian people
Earlier, al-Moallem called on the international community to shoudler its responsibilities towards ending the plight of the Palestinian people by adopting serious steps to end the Israeli occupation’s violations of their human rights.
In a solidarity letter with the Palestinian people directed to chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, al-Moallem stressed that hundreds of UN resolutions have confirmed that the Palestinian people are exposed to the curliest kind of racial discrimination and suppression, asserting that the Israeli occupation is still usurping the Palestinian lands and rights.
The letter came on the occasion of the annual meeting of the Committee marking the World Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian People on Monday, November 25th.
The Minister noted that all the relevant UN resolutions confirm the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights, asserting that the Israeli occupation is seeking to liquidate the Palestinian cause by refusing to abide by the relevant UN resolutions and rejecting any kind of accountability.
“Syria has been aware of the need to maintain the rights of the Palestinian people, therefore it stood by them and defended their rights, in addition to hosting about half a million Palestinians as they enjoy their full rights,” the Foreign Minister said.
He added “Syria endured and is still enduring a lot of pressure to force it to abandon the Palestinian people’s legitimate cause and abandon the occupied Syrian Golan, but this pressure will not weaken its determination to stand by the Palestinian people until they establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital as per the UN Resolutions No. 242, No. 338 and No. 497 on the occupied Syrian Golan.”
