israel offensive to torpedo Palestine state bid: Analyst

The Israeli regime has embarked on an offensive in the West Bank in an attempt to kill the bid by Palestinian Authority (PA) for integration into the UN, an analyst writes for Press TV.
“One dynamic is the Zionists wanting to torpedo the Palestinian UN integration momentum,” Jim Dean wrote in an article for the Press TV website.
He said the world community’s official recognition of Palestine as a “state” will give the West Bank and the Gaza Strip “instant and indisputable legal rights over the huge oil and gas deposits.”
“They are smaller reserves [than those held by Arab monarchies in the Persian Gulf] for sure, but more than enough to change Mideast dynamics,” wrote Dean.
The analyst said the Zionist regime is serious in its offensive in the West Bank because it intends to “completely change the geopolitical dynamic” of the Occupied Territories.
Israel launched a violent and deadly offensive against Palestinians under the pretext of finding three Israeli settlers that it said went missing in the West Bank in al-Khalil (Hebron) three weeks ago. On Monday, Israel said it had found the bodies belonging to the settlers, and has since killed at least one Palestinian in a fresh wave of aggression.
Dean also referred to Tel Aviv’s attempts against Lebanon and Syria, attributing them to offshore oil and gas potentials in these countries.
He said development of hydrocarbon fields in these countries would give them a “retaliatory capacity” against “Israeli military aggression” and would also “transform the economies and long-term development of millions of long suffering Arabs in those countries.”
Amnesty International has lashed out at Israel for its aggression against Palestinians, saying these moves are in blatant violation of international humanitarian law.
Israeli forces have killed several Palestinians and arrested hundreds of others, including Hamas members and lawmakers, as part of the military operations purportedly in search of the three settlers.
