S Arabia responsible for stopping Takfiri thought: Hezbollah
The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has called on Saudi Arabia to stop the spread of Takfiri ideology in the Middle East.
“Saudi Arabia bares primary responsibility for preventing the spread of this ideology,” Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah said during a speech at a ceremony on the occasion of Muharram at Sayyed al-Shuhadaa complex in the southern suburb of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on Monday, Lebanese media reported.
Nasrallah further said terror activities by the Takfiris are rooted in a “Wahhabist mentality,” warning that the terrorists are misrepresenting the nature of Islam.
“What is happening today is the biggest distortion of Islam in history,” he stressed, adding that Takfiri terrorism poses “a threat to Islam as a religion [as well as] its principles and values.”
He further noted that the crimes perpetrated by the terrorists are unprecedented in history, saying, “This pushes non-Muslims away from Islam, because the (Takfiri) method presents Muslims as a savage and bloodthirsty group.”
“The Takfiri thought was established in the Arab world almost 200 years ago and was provided with financial as well as governmental capabilities which founded the universities, schools, newspapers, and houses of publications in order to pervade its concepts all over the world.”
Nasrallah said that the problem of Takfiris is too deep to be addressed only through a military solution, saying the problem should be first dealt with at intellectual, scientific, and cultural levels.
“Islam, the nation and the Islamic societies are being threatened by this Takfiri thought whose causes, not effects must be addressed.”
The Hezbollah chief stressed the need for unity among Shias and Sunnis to counter the growing threat emanating from the Takfiri militants.
The terrorists currently control large areas of territory across Syria and Iraq. They have committed terrible atrocities in both countries, including mass executions and beheading of local residents as well as foreign nationals.
Since September 22, the US and its allies have been conducting airstrikes against the ISIL inside Syria without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate. The airstrikes are an extension of the US-led aerial campaign against ISIL positions in Iraq.
Washington has been supporting the militants operating against the government in Syria since March 2011. Many ISIL terrorists have reportedly received training by the CIA in Jordan and Turkey. Saudi Arabia and Qatar have also been staunch supporters of the militants.
On October 20, Nasrallah said the US was using ISIL as a means to scare and blackmail the people of the region to impose its hegemony, especially in Syria and Iraq.
