ISIL crimes displace over 2mn Iraqis: IOM

Over two million people in Iraq have been displaced internally as a result of atrocities committed by ISIL Takfiri terrorists, the International Organization of Migration (IOM) says.

According to a report issued by IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) on Tuesday, an estimated 2,086,356 Iraqis are displaced in the crisis-hit country from the beginning of January through December 9, 2014.

The report further notes that the Iraqi people have been dispersed across 2,049 distinct locations in the country.

A similar report by the same organization in October showed that an estimated 1,814,862 people (302,477 families) had been displaced in the Arab country. The report covered internal displacement from January through October 5, 2014.

The report also indicated that Nineveh and Anbar provinces had the largest displaced population with 147,875 and 83,979 families respectively. The two provinces are the areas most affected by the current crisis in Iraq.

The IOM report in October further revealed that heavy fighting in the city of Hit in Iraq’s restive western province of al-Anbar had forced over 3,708 families to flee. It additionally suggested that Iraq’s Kurdistan region houses 142,380 displaced families.

It was also reported that seven of Iraq’s 18 governorates have witnessed displacement from within and across governorate borders and the Iraqi provinces of Salah al-Din and Nineveh have seen significant population losses.

ISIL terrorists operating in Iraq have committed many atrocities targeting civilians, compelling them to flee their homes.
