Some 500 migrants hoping to reach Western Europe were locked in a standoff with Hungarian police late Thursday, half a day after police stopped their train in order to take them to a collecting center.
The migrants, mostly Syrians fleeing the war at home, boarded the train in Budapest at noon, after being blocked from the Keleti station since at least Tuesday.
Hungary allowed a few trains to depart for Austria on Monday, but clamped down after that. Thousands of migrants remain crowded around the station in Budapest hoping to finally continue their journey.
