Syrian Army, Militants Agree on One-Day Truce in Zabadani, Madaya, Fuaa, Kafraya

Military sources said that after a long night meeting between the Syrian Army’s central command and Ahrar al-Sham leader, another 24-hour truce was agreed to be put in place at the cities of Zabadani and Madaya in Damascus governorate and Fuaa and Kafraya in Idlib governorate.

According to a military source in Damascus, the ceasefire agreement between the Syrian Armed Forces and the militants of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham was set to begin at 6 a.m. Sunday (Damascus Time) at the aforementioned cities; this non-violent agreement is scheduled to expire on Monday morning.

In the meantime, Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham has agreed to allow humanitarian aid to the besieged civilians of Fuaa and Kafraya; while the Syrian Armed Forces have agreed to allow all of the wounded militants to be evacuated from Madaya and Zabadani region to the Lebanese border, where they will seek medical assistance in the ‘Arsal District.

A media report in late August said that the violation of the ceasefire in the countryside of Damascus and Idlib province has been orchestrated by the Turkish government.

Ahrar al-Sham terrorist group has received orders from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to violate the ceasefire between the government and the militants in the town of Zabadani in Damascus countryside and two Shiite towns of Fuaa and Kafraya in Idlib province.

“One of the reasons that the ceasefire was violated was because Ahrar al-Sham called for complete withdrawal of the Syrian troops from the villages of Kafraya and Fuaa in Idlib,” Secretary General of the Syrian Solidarity Party Mohammad Abolqassem said at the time.
