Iranian Ambassador to Beirut Mohammad Fathali said Iran will not hesitate to provide military support to the Lebanese army in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

In a Saturday meeting in Beirut with Lebanon’s Defense Minister Samir Moqbel, Fathali said Iran is more than ever willing to assist Lebanon’s armed forces in its ongoing counter-terror campaign.

“Takfiri terrorism is the spawn of the Zionist regime, while Lebanon and Iran play an important role in fighting it,” the Iranian envoy added.

In relevant remarks, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani has said Iran will supply the Lebanese army with new weaponry. In his words, “The arms aids will be announced during the Lebanese defense minister’s official visit to Tehran in the near future.”

Senior officials in Beirut say Iran has presented a list of military tools and weapons to be gifted to the Lebanese army to help the country in its fight against terrorism. Defense Minister Moqbel has told the Lebanese al-Manar TV that he would visit Iran at the head of a high-ranking military delegation to study the pledged arms aids.

“The details of the arms aids which Tehran is ready to supply to the Lebanese army will be studied in the presence of a delegation of high-ranking officers,” he added.

According to Moqbel, the delegation will review the proposal after returning to Beirut. He expressed the hope that other countries would also supply Beirut with arms aids proportionate to the needs of its army.
