Syrian Army Launches Mop-Up Operation in Western Damascus
Syrian army soldiers inflicted major casualties on Fatah al-Sham and took full control over Deir al-Khabiyeh and its surrounding areas.
Fatah al-Sham left scores of dead members, army and ammunition behind and retreated from the battlefield, while Syrian government forces carried out a mop-up operation to capture or kill the remaining pockets of the terrorists.
A tanks and several machinegun-equipped vehicles of Fatah al-Sham were destroyed in the army attacks.
The Syrian army has liberated 10 kilometers of Deir al-Khabiyeh’s surroundings and is advancing towards the small town of al-Wadi.
The government forces have gained military control over Deir al-Khabiyeh-Maraneh road.
Army sources said on Sunday that pro-government troops in Syria were resolved to continue anti-terrorism operations in Western Ghouta to restore security to the entire territories bordering Lebanon.
“The large-scale operations in Khan al-Sheih will land a crushing strike on the militants in Western Ghouta and will end their threat to the capital Damascus,” the sources said.
“Deployment of the 68th Division of the Syrian army in Western Ghouta has cut off the supply lines of the terrorists in Beit Jin from Khan al-Sheih, so they will not receive any aid from their comrades outside the region,” they added.
“The 68th Division of the Syrian army is ready to fend off any terrorist attack and is preparing for massive operations in the region,” the sources underlined.
“The operation underway in Western Ghouta will ruin the dreams of the Israel-backed terrorist groups to carve out this region from Damascus,” the sources pointed out.
