Syrian Army makes fresh gains in northeast Damascus

The Syrian Armed Forces continue to overrun Islamist rebels in the northeastern neighborhood of al-Qaboun amid heavy airstrikes and artillery shelling.
Today, the government troops clashed with fighters of Faylaq al-Rahaman and managed to kill most of them and capture their leaders along with his two companions.
The clashes, which took place in the northeastern parts of the insurgent-held neighborhood, also destroyed a network of tunnels used by rebels as an effective tactic to avoid aerial bombardment and artillery shelling.
Yesterday, the Syrian Army recaptured the strategic Al-Hussein Mosque following fierce battles that left scores of insurgents dead and injured.
