Syrian Army Fortifies Positions at Border with Iraq, Intensifies Anti-Terrorism Operation in Homs

 

Military sources reported that the Syrian Army troops are fortifying the newly-captured positions at the border with Iraq, adding that the country’s soldiers have sped up their advances near the key town of al-Sukhnah in Eastern Homs to move towards ISIL-held Deir Ezzur.

The army troops that managed to advance against terrorists at the border with Iraq in the last few days have been fortifying their positions at the border and North of al-Zalaf region, the sources said.

The sources, meantime, said that the army soldiers continued their significant advances against ISIL in Arak energy field and intensified their attacks on terrorists’ concentration centers and defense lines to drive terrorists out of al-Sukhnah, their last stronghold in Eastern Homs, to push towards Deir Ezzur.

The source went on to say that the advance toward Deir Ezzur is one of the priorities of the army men in Eastern Syria because capturing Deir Ezzur will assist the army soldiers to manage the battel against ISIL with Iraqi forces’ cooperation and help.

In the meantime, removing the siege of Deir Ezzur will pave the ground to use a large number of soldiers that are under the siege of the ISIL in the city and the airbase that is the only location to send aids, arms and ammunition to Deir Ezzur.

In relevant developments in the province on Sunday, the army soldiers clashed with ISIL that attacked pro-government forces’ positons at Panorama base and managed to repel their offensive.

ISIL lost a number of fighters and retreated the remaining pockets of its forces from the battlefield to evade more casualties.

In the meantime, the Syrian Air Force launched a number of air raids against ISIL’s positions in Panorama, Iman petrol station, al-Thardah mountain, al-Thardah crossroad, Tal (hill) Aloush, al-Orfi neighborhood and the village of al-Janineh, killing and wounding a large number of terrorists and destroying their military vehicles.
