“We appreciate Iran’s role in mediating between Baghdad and Erbil,” Iminiki said.
He underlined that the Iraqi Kurdistan Region is proud to have good relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iminiki underlined that the semi-autonomous Kurdistan wants to strengthen and deepen its relations with Iran, and said, “As the KRG parliament speaker I will do my best to enhance bilateral relations.”
In a relevant development in January, Iraqi Kurdistan’s Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani declared his recent visit to Iran a success, and said that both sides had fruitful discussions on a wide range of issues.
“My meetings with the Iranian officials were very fruitful,” Barzani told reporters in Erbil upon his return from the visit to Iran.
He also insisted that no terrorist group can use the Iraqi Kurdistan Region’s territory as a base to attack neighboring countries.
During his visit to Tehran, Barzani held meetings with high-ranking Iranian officials, including President Hassan Rouhani, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.
