Former Iranian FM: Uprisings in Region Not Desired by Washington

Former Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki warned of the attempts made by the US, British, Saudi and Bahraini governments to prevent materialization of people’s demands and aspirations in the region, and said Washington is displeased with the democratic moves happening in the region.
“I believe that the products of the democratic moves in the region will not be desired by the US at all and this is a crystal clear issue,” Mottaki said, addressing a number of Iranian university students here in Tehran on Monday.

He noted the recent uprisings in the Persian Gulf region, specially in Bahrain, and said, “What is happening in Bahrain today is a political move, and the US and Britain as well as the al-Khalifa and Saudi regimes are resolved to hamper materialization of the people’s will.”

Mottaki reiterated that the recent events in the Middle-East and North Africa have made the regional nations aware of their power and also blocked the attempts made by tyrannical rulers to exploit their nations.

Political observers believe that people’s uprisings in Egypt, Tunisia, Bahrain, Jordan, Yemen and Libya are the result of the growing “Islamic awakening” in the Middle-Eastern countries.

People in the Middle-East now believe that the western approach to the ongoing revolutions in these countries has unveiled the true nature of the West’s stance on democracy.

The United States and certain other western countries have adopted a double-standard approach towards the popular protests against the dictatorial regimes in the region.

Political observers also believe that the recent uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain and Jordan are the result of America’s double standards in the Middle-East and its biased policies against the different nations.
