
Iranian border guards have gunned down two members of a terrorist organization and captured another in Southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan near the country’s border with Pakistan.
The Iranian troops deployed at the zero point between Iran and Pakistan detected members of the terror group called “Ansar Al-Furqan” as they were attempting to sneak across the frontier with the intent to carry out acts of sabotage in the country, Commander of the border police Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goudarzi said on Saturday.He added that the Iranian forces did not hesitate to engage in a fierce exchange of fire with the terrorists, killing two of them in the process. A militant was also captured following the armed clashes.
Sistan and Baluchestan province, which borders Pakistan, has witnessed several terror attacks targeting both civilians and security forces over the past years.Iranian security agents have in recent years dismantled several terrorist networks affiliated with the foreign-backed notorious terror group. The militants were involved in making explosives and hand-made bombs and linked to foreigners and planned to carry out counter-security acts and terror operations.Iran has been the target of terrorist attacks in the past few decades and thousands of its citizens have been martyred by the terrorist groups supported by certain Western states. Iranian officials stress that the country is a victim of terrorism.Iranian military officials have warned neighboring countries to observe the principle of good neighborliness and not allow destabilizing activities on their soil.Back in March, a military official declared the Iranian Border Police forces have foiled more than 4,000 terrorist operations along the country’s frontiers during the past year. The Border Police units have prevented many terrorist groups from approaching the country’s frontiers, and a large number of weapons, suicide vests, and remote-controlled bombs have been found during the past 12 months.
The top commander also stated that a sizable cache of munitions was confiscated as well.
