Israeli Occupation Releases Al-Shifa Hospital Chief and 49 Others Amidst Brutal Detentions
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have released 50 detainees from the Gaza Strip, including the chief of al-Shifa Medical Complex, Mohammad Abu Salmiya. This news comes after reports of severe torture and mistreatment at the hands of Israeli occupation soldiers.
Abu Salmiya, who was detained at the Kuwait checkpoint alongside another surgeon, was subjected to inhumane conditions simply for refusing to make false accusations against the Resistance. He described the treatment of detainees as unprecedented since the Nakba, with many medical staff facing targeted attacks and even death under torture.
The head of the Commission for Detainees’ Affairs, Qaddoura Fares, revealed that prisoners are enduring a war of ‘revenge’, with testimonies detailing beatings, starvation, and other violations. These detainees have made a pact to boycott any court that sees them as “illegal combatants”.
In response to Abu Salmiya’s release, Israeli Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir expressed outrage, calling for harsher treatment of prisoners, including advocating for the implementation of the death penalty. His shocking statements have raised concerns about the treatment of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons.
