Hamas condemns zionist cruelty after video surfaces showing Palestinians being tortured in prison

Hamas has denounced Israel for the alleged torture and humiliation of Palestinian prisoners in Megiddo Prison and has urged the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to document these alleged violations.

Hamas issued a statement asserting that the degrading treatment of Palestinian inmates in Megiddo Prison by the occupying forces and their prison service, likened to Nazis, reveals the deep-seated hatred and sadism of the prison guards towards Palestinians.

“The occupying Israeli regime continues to subject Palestinian prisoners to a series of brutal actions, including torture, mistreatment, starvation, deliberate medical neglect, and the denial of basic human rights. Consequently, the number of Palestinians who have died due to such negligence and torture has exceeded 60,” the statement added.

Recently leaked footage from Megiddo Prison reveals Israeli forces mistreating Palestinian inmates and intimidating them with sniffer dogs.

The video depicts numerous prisoners lying face down on the ground with their hands bound behind their backs, some of them unclothed, as Israeli security forces intimidate them with dogs.

In their statement, Hamas urged international human rights organizations and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to record such abuses and other horrendous crimes committed against Palestinian detainees.

It further urged international organizations to swiftly intervene and exert pressure on Israel and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cease their flagrant breaches of international law and norms related to prisoners, and to hold Israeli leaders accountable for their ongoing offenses.

The Ministry of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs in Gaza stated, “The oppressive Zionist regime, led by the extremist and terrorist Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, has transformed prisons and detention centers into death traps.”

According to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the event occurred within the prison’s security section, where Israeli guards restrained the inmates with handcuffs and subjected them to abuse.

Palestinian prisoners in Israel endure appalling conditions, lacking adequate hygiene and facing systematic abuse, including torture, harassment, and repression.

Human rights organizations report that Israel persistently infringes upon the rights and freedoms guaranteed to prisoners under the Fourth Geneva Convention and international laws.

The Palestine Detainees Studies Center reports that approximately 60 percent of Palestinian inmates in Israeli prisons endure chronic illnesses. Among them, several have died either during their imprisonment or shortly after their release due to the seriousness of their health conditions.

Palestinian prisoners have consistently undertaken indefinite hunger strikes as a means to protest their unlawful imprisonment.
