Iran criticized Israel for ending the 1974 ceasefire agreement with Syria, describing the action as “unbridled expansionism”
The Iranian Embassy in Lebanon has firmly denounced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's declaration that the longstanding agreement with Syria regarding the strategic Golan Heights has unraveled. The embassy asserted that this move underscores the Tel Aviv regime's expansionist ambitions.

The diplomatic mission issued a statement on its official X account in Arabic on Monday, criticizing Prime Minister Netanyahu’s announcement about the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement and his occupation of new areas in the Syrian Golan. The statement described these actions as a clear indication of Israel’s unrestrained expansionist aspirations.
The embassy stated that the move further demonstrates Israel’s complete disregard for ceasefire agreements, international law, and international treaties.
The mission concluded with a statement asserting that the Zionist regime is perceived to respond solely to displays of power and emphasized the necessity of bringing such actions to an end.
In a significant escalation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday that the longstanding agreement with Syria has effectively disintegrated. In response, he has directed Israeli military forces to secure a buffer zone in the Golan Heights following the withdrawal of Syrian troops from their posts.
The Israeli military has issued a cautionary directive to residents of five towns in southern Syria, urging them to remain indoors until further notice. This advisory comes as Israel launched a series of airstrikes targeting Syrian military bases, facilities, and weapon depots.
The towns in question include Ofania, Quneitra, al-Hamidiyah, Western al-Samadaniyah, and al-Qahtaniyah.
On Sunday, Israeli fighter jets launched a series of airstrikes targeting former military and security installations of the Syrian government in and around Damascus, as well as in Syria’s southwestern province of Quneitra.
Militant factions, spearheaded by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), declared on Sunday that they have seized control of Damascus, signaling the collapse of President Bashar al-Assad’s administration.
The downfall of Assad occurred just under two weeks following a sudden, coordinated assault by HTS-led militants on Syria’s Aleppo and the surrounding Idlib countryside. The offensive resulted in the capture of several key cities, including Damascus.
