General Qa’ani characterized the Gaza ceasefire as the “biggest defeat” for Israel

The commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has praised the ceasefire agreement reached between Hamas, the Palestinian resistance group, and Israel, describing it as the most significant setback for the Israeli regime.

Brigadier General Esmail Qa’ani announced on Sunday that the recently enacted ceasefire has marked a significant setback for Israel, concluding an extended period of military action against Palestinians in the blockaded Gaza Strip. Qa’ani characterized the ceasefire as the “most substantial defeat” Israel has endured, claiming that the nation was unable to fulfill its objectives during the conflict.

General Qa’ani stated that after 15 months of conflict involving actions against Palestine, Lebanon, and the broader region, the Zionist regime has been compelled to agree to a ceasefire under significant pressure. He described this development as occurring at a point of heightened vulnerability for the regime.

The head of the Quds Force emphasized that the recently agreed-upon ceasefire was identical to the proposal put forward in earlier negotiation rounds, which Israel had previously declined.

In a statement, Qa’ani criticized the recent ceasefire agreement, describing it as similar to prior negotiation efforts. He accused the Zionist regime of undermining the initiative for their own gain without achieving any tangible results.

In a recent development, the same terms initially proposed by the Palestinian Islamic resistance and their allies have been accepted in the latest round of negotiations. As a result, at 1 p.m. today, the vulnerability and significant setback of the Zionist regime are set to be revealed, marking what has been described as one of its most substantial defeats in recent history, according to statements from the involved parties.

On October 7, 2023, Israel initiated a significant military operation on Gaza following a major offensive by Hamas-led groups. This action was in response to escalated Israeli operations perceived as severe aggressions against Palestinians.

The Israeli government did not succeed in achieving its stated goals, which included the liberation of hostages and the dismantling of Hamas, despite resulting in the deaths of nearly 47,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom were women and children.

On Wednesday, Israel reached a ceasefire agreement, consenting to terms previously advocated by Hamas, marking a significant development in the ongoing conflict.

In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) announced the issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The charges pertain to alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes.

In a significant legal development last year, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued a directive mandating Israel to implement urgent measures aimed at averting what was described as a “plausible genocide” in the Gaza Strip. This ruling came in response to a case initiated by South Africa.
