North Korea’s Leader Kim conducts inspection of a project developing a ‘nuclear-powered submarine’

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un conducted an inspection on Saturday of an ongoing initiative to construct a nuclear-powered submarine, state media reported.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un conducted an inspection tour of shipyards dedicated to the construction of military vessels, according to a report by the Korean Central News Agency. The agency did not specify the date or location of the visit.

According to the report, Kim Jong Un was briefed on the construction of a nuclear-powered strategic guided missile submarine. This development is among Kim’s primary military objectives outlined in a previous party congress, which featured an array of advanced weaponry on its agenda.

Yonhap News Agency has reported that the document appears to be highlighting a nuclear-powered submarine equipped with ballistic missile launch capabilities. This marks a historic revelation, as it is the first instance where the nuclear-armed North Korea has disclosed the construction of such a submarine.

According to a report by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim Jong Un stated that the nation’s maritime defense capabilities would be demonstrated extensively and without restriction in any waters deemed necessary.

“The evolution of the naval forces into a distinguished and nuclear-capable entity represents a pivotal element in the national defense development strategy,” the statement noted.
