A ceasefire agreement in Gaza anticipated to potentially take effect on Sunday

As hostilities by Israeli forces persist in the Gaza Strip for the eleventh day, sources familiar with the situation have indicated that an announcement regarding a ceasefire could be expected on Sunday.

Maanews has reported that there is continued speculation regarding potential talks facilitated by mediators among the parties involved.

Reports indicate that negotiations are underway regarding proposals for the release of Israeli prisoners and the provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza, which are expected to initiate the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.

According to sources, Egypt has put forward a new proposal aimed at facilitating the weekly release of five Israeli prisoners.

Hamas has maintained compliance with the ceasefire agreement’s stipulations with Tel Aviv. However, Israel has hindered the negotiation process, impeding the advance to the agreement’s second phase.

In January, the Israeli government reached a ceasefire agreement with Hamas after being unable to fulfill its objectives, including neutralizing the Palestinian Resistance movement and securing the release of captives.

The 42-day period of the truce, reportedly disrupted by numerous Israeli breaches, concluded on March 1. However, Israel has yet to engage in discussions concerning the agreement’s second phase.

In a significant escalation of hostilities, Israeli forces have initiated aerial strikes on the Gaza Strip starting Tuesday. This development marks a breach of the recent ceasefire and disrupts the prisoner exchange agreement that had been maintained for almost two months.
