Araghchi Urges IAEA to Firmly Address Threats to Iran’s Nuclear Facilities
Iran has urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to adopt a definitive position against threats to its nuclear facilities. This call follows recent statements from Trump, who threatened to target Iran's nuclear infrastructure.

During a telephone discussion on Tuesday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made a request to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
Araghchi provided Grossi with an update on the recent diplomatic progress related to Iran’s peaceful nuclear initiatives, emphasizing Iran’s dedication to working collaboratively with the United Nations’ nuclear oversight body.
The foreign minister stressed the necessity for the agency to adopt a clear and transparent stance concerning the ongoing threats to Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Trump has issued a warning, suggesting military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities if Tehran declines to negotiate a new agreement with Washington.
During his initial tenure, Trump exited a prior nuclear deal with Iran and initiated a stringent maximum pressure strategy against the nation.
Trump reinstated the policy upon his return to the White House for a second term in January. However, he has indicated an openness to negotiate a new agreement to replace the 2015 accord, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
In a letter penned last month, the United States urged Iran to engage in negotiations for a new agreement, while also warning of potential military action should Tehran decline the offer.
Iran has dismissed the possibility of engaging in direct talks with the United States, rejecting negotiations conducted under duress and intimidation. The decision is rooted in Tehran’s concerns over Washington’s track record of breaching international commitments.
Masoud Pezeshkian announced on Sunday that Iran had issued a response to Trump’s letter and expressed Tehran’s willingness to partake in indirect negotiations with Washington. He stated that the future trajectory of these discussions would be influenced by the behavior of the United States.
According to warnings from United States intelligence agencies, there is a possibility that Israel could initiate an offensive on Iran’s nuclear facilities within the year.
Recent evaluations warn that these strikes have the potential to spark a wider conflict that could envelop the entire region, posing significant threats to US military assets.
Israel is reportedly seeking to engage the United States in addressing the perceived threat posed by Iran, with American officials indicating that Israel may lack the military strength to independently target Iran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure effectively.
During a phone conversation with the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Araghchi issued a warning that Iran is prepared to implement all necessary actions to protect its nuclear sites amid ongoing threats.
In response, Grossi stated that he intends to collaborate with other stakeholders to establish a supportive setting for addressing the matters at hand.
In a development of international diplomacy, a request for a visit to Iran was made, and it received provisional approval from Iranian official Araghchi.
