Borrell Claims 50% of Gaza Bombs Provided by European Sources

Josep Borrell, the former foreign policy chief of the European Union, has issued a powerful condemnation of the bloc's position regarding actions taken by Israel in the Gaza Strip. Borrell criticized the EU's involvement, emphasizing that a significant portion of the munitions used in Gaza are supplied by European countries.

Europe is experiencing what has been described as the largest ethnic cleansing since World War II, with the intention of developing a holiday resort following the displacement of Palestinians, according to statements made by Borrell. These remarks were delivered after he was honored with the Carlos V European Award at the Yuste Monastery in Spain.

He described the situation in Gaza as “genocide” and asserted that the European Union, although equipped with the means to intervene and curb Israeli activities, is not adequately meeting its obligation to take action.

A spokesperson claimed that the European Union is not fully utilizing its capabilities as the region confronts what is described as the most significant ethnic cleansing operation since the conclusion of the Second World War. The remarks suggest that this effort aims to transform the area into an idyllic tourist location, contingent upon the removal of millions of tons of debris from Gaza and after the displacement or demise of the Palestinian population.

Borrell criticized Israel for allegedly breaching international conflict regulations and employing the starvation of Gaza’s civilian population as a “weapon of war.”

Gaza has reportedly been subjected to a level of explosive force three times greater than that of the Hiroshima bomb, according to statements made by an official.

For several months, Gaza has experienced a complete halt in the supply of essential resources, including water, food, electricity, fuel, and medical services. This situation aligns with the statements and actions made by ministers under the leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu.

Josep Borrell has expressed his concerns regarding the situation, highlighting remarks made by Israeli officials that he interprets as having genocidal implications. He remarked on the rarity of hearing a state leader articulate a plan that aligns with the legal definition of genocide, emphasizing the gravity of the statements from ministers aligned with Netanyahu.

The Israeli military launched renewed airstrikes on Gaza on March 18, resulting in the deaths of thousands of Palestinians and leaving many more injured. This escalation came after the breakdown of a two-month ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian group Hamas, as well as a deal concerning the exchange of Israeli captives and Palestinian detainees.

According to reports, a devastating Israeli military offensive in Gaza since October 7, 2023, has resulted in the deaths of at least 52,810 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, with an additional 119,473 individuals sustaining injuries.

Hamas has indicated its openness to considering proposals, provided they ensure a lasting ceasefire, the full withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip, the alleviation of suffering for the Palestinian population, and a substantial prisoner exchange agreement.
